International Fertilizer Association granted consultative status by the International Maritime Organization
The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) was granted consultative status by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at its July 2024 Council session. Consultative status is reserved for non-governmental, international organizations that are judged to be able to provide a significant contribution to the work of the IMO through the provision of specific expertise.
IFA CEO and Director General, Alzbeta Klein, said:
"IFA is pleased to have gained IMO consultative status. The fertilizer and shipping industries are closely linked, with fertilizers being heavily reliant on shipping for the global distribution of plant nutrients, and with ammonia, one of the key ingredients of nitrogen fertilizer products, having the potential to be used as a low carbon shipping fuel of the future. The many intersections of the two industries and the scientific and data-backed approach of IFA make this a natural partnership. We are looking forward to contributing to the IMO’s important work and to furthering our mission of helping to feed the world sustainably."
